Do steroids shrink your penis?

Do steroids shrink your penis?

As absurd as this question might seem, I have been asked about this multiple times by individuals looking to start utilising anabolic steroids. The answer is “No but…” Stay tuned for the answer to the “but…”

If you have gone through puberty and are above the age of 18, you have most likely achieved the maximum growth of your penis. There is almost nothing, besides trauma and possibly DNP (article about DNP), that can alter that size. It is formed out of various tissues that cannot be changed by steroids. But perhaps individuals asking this question are misled. Steroids do shrink your testicles (testicular atrophy), and this is a reversible side effect that will return to normal after cessation of the offending agents.

What about the “But”?
Although this is still not technically shrinkage, if you are below the age of 18 or are still going through the changes in puberty, you can alter the size of your penis. This happens because penile growth and length depend on genetics and on the level of a testosterone by product called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). You penis is only susceptible to this hormone during puberty. The higher the levels of DHT, the higher propensity for more maximal penile growth.

The issue comes in when an individual who is still going through puberty decides to utilise anabolic steroids that do not convert to DHT. The most dangerous class of drugs regarding this issue are SARMs. SARMs do not convert to DHT and they decrease natural testosterone levels making your body produce less DHT. This will result in inadequate penis stimulation and thus growth. It is not only SARMs that have this effect. After use of steroids that do convert to the DHT, one will experience a period of natural testosterone suppression where DHT levels will be low due to low production and this may then influence penile growth.

In conclusion, if you are worried about the size of your penis, do not utilise Performance enhancing drugs before the end of puberty.
